New State-of-the-Art Patient Tower Opens at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center

Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center opened its new patient tower in October, the centerpiece of the Tarzana Reimagined Project—an extensive and ongoing hospital expansion and modernization plan.

The tower is named for the Donald Friese family in recognition of their $50 million gift for the building’s construction. The five-story, 200,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Friese Family Tower advances the hospital’s 50-year legacy of care in the San Fernando Valley, expanding world-class care close to home for those who live or work in the area.

The new building features 150 spacious, private patient rooms; a new, expanded emergency department that doubles the capacity of the hospital’s former emergency department; a new pharmacy; a cardiovascular unit; a critical care unit; and a pediatric unit with a playroom for younger patients and dedicated room for adolescent patients. New technology in the tower will advance patient care and expand access to the latest diagnostics and treatment.

California Rehabilitation Institute Earns U.S. News Honors

The California Rehabilitation Institute—a partnership of Cedars-Sinai, UCLA Health and Select Medical—has been named among the best physical rehabilitation hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital ranked #21 out of 1,041 eligible facilities in U.S. News 2023-24 rankings.

To be nationally ranked, a hospital must excel in caring for the sickest, most medically complex patients. The ratings are based on a U.S. News analysis of hospital performance, including caring for patients recovering from events such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries and other neurological disorders and diseases.

The hospital provides intensive rehabilitation to patients recovering from a stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, orthopedic injury, neuromuscular disorders, limb loss and amputation, cancer and other medical conditions with functional limitations. It is designed to help each patient recover the strength, skills and independence in daily activities that they need to return home and resume their lives. With 138 private rooms at its Century City location, the institute is the largest physical medicine and rehabilitation hospital of its kind on the West Coast.

Huntington Cancer Center Marks First Year as an Affiliate of Cedars-Sinai Cancer

Huntington Cancer Center recently celebrated its one-year anniversary of becoming an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai Cancer. Through this collaboration, Huntington has expanded its program to deliver the highest level of personalized care.

The affiliation gives Huntington patients access to more dedicated specialists, innovative treatment options and expanded services, including a new on-site infusion center. It also connects patients with new research, advanced reconstructive surgeries and compassionate palliative care, as well as leading clinical trials through the Cedars-Sinai Cancer clinical trials network.

In addition to these benefits, Huntington Cancer Center continues to offer highly personalized care, largely thanks to dedicated nurse navigators who guide patients and their caregivers throughout the cancer journey, coordinating appointments, communicating with care team members and providing referrals for supportive resources.
